Rising water levels cause Pa Sak Jolasid Dam to increase discharge, residents of Lopburi alerted

The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has announced an increase in the water discharge from the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam, effective from September 19, 2025. The decision to boost the inflow volume was made by the Thai government under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in 2017.

As of 6:00 am on September 19, the dam held 690 million cubic metres of water, representing 72% of its total capacity. The increase in water discharge is due to rising inflows into the dam, and monitoring indicates that these inflows from upstream are likely to continue.

Residents along the Pa Sak River, including those in Lopburi, have been advised to closely monitor rising water levels. Officials expect the rise in river levels to remain within the river channel and not cause flooding of the riverbanks. However, water levels are expected to rise by 0.3-0.5 metres, and residents are urged to prepare for potential increases and to closely follow official updates.

Public announcements and warnings will continue to be issued to ensure safety in the area. The RID will gradually increase the water discharge from Pa Sak Jolasid Dam to 400 cubic metres per second from September 19 onwards.

No new information about the water levels in the dam, the Pa Sak River, or the inflows and outflows was provided in this update. It is essential for residents to stay informed and vigilant, and to follow the advice and instructions of local authorities.

On a positive note, the 'floating tourist train' to Pasak Jolasid Dam is scheduled to return next month, providing an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of the dam once the water levels stabilize.

Stay safe, and keep updated on the latest developments regarding the Pa Sak River and the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam.
