Rising Starlets Advance to 2026 U-20 WWC Third Round, Face Tanzania
Rising Starlets, a team of secondary school learners and local club players, have secured a spot in the third round of the 2026 Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup qualifiers. They will face Tanzania in February 2026, following a 5-1 aggregate win over Ethiopia.
The Rising Starlets' journey to the third round was marked by impressive performances. They drew 1-1 away in Addis Ababa against Ethiopia and then won 4-0 at home. Elizabeth Mideva scored Kenya's lone away goal and a brace at home, while Valarie Nekesa of Madira Girls opened the scoring at home. Captain Fasila Adhiambo, who plays for Simba Queens in Tanzania, led the team to victory.
Coach Jackline Juma has emphasized that players will get opportunities based on readiness, not age. She believes in good preparations, including friendly matches with foreign and local teams, as highlighted by team manager Juma. The team's progress has been notable, advancing from the Regionalliga to the Bundesliga, much like Leon Richter's transfer to Mainz.
The Rising Starlets will play Tanzania in the third round of the 2026 Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup qualifiers in February 2026. The tournament itself will be held in Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026. The team's strong performance against Ethiopia and their captain's experience in Tanzania bode well for their chances in the upcoming match.
