In a thrilling turn of events, 19-year-old tennis sensation Rakotomanga from Madagascar has clinched her first trophy of the year, winning the Sao Paulo Open on Sunday. This victory catapulted her 83 places up the rankings ladder to a career high of 131.

Rakotomanga's journey in tennis began in Montpelier through the Fête le Mur charity. Her hard work and dedication have paid off, as she is now the sixth-ranked French player in the WTA rankings.

Before her triumph in Sao Paulo, Rakotomanga had a mixed record. She won the French under-18 national championships in September 2023 but faced a defeat to Carol Young Suh Lee on Wednesday. However, she bounced back with a resilient performance, defeating Janice Tjen from Indonesia with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the Sao Paulo Open final.

Meanwhile, fellow French tennis player Lois Boisson, ranked 49th in the WTA rankings, had a less successful tournament. She was eliminated in the first qualifying round for Wimbledon and was ousted in the first round at the US Open.

Elsa Jacquemot, currently at 62 in the world, made a significant leap in the French rankings after her run to the semi-final at the Guadalajara Open. Diane Parry also made an impression, reaching the third round at the US Open.

The French Tennis Federation has expressed concern about the lack of French players consistently challenging for Grand Slam trophies. However, Gilles Moretton, head of the French Tennis Federation, expressed optimism about the prospects in the younger generation before the French Open.

Other notable French players include Varvara Gracheva, ranked 80th, Léolia Jeanjean, ranked 94th, and Diane Parry, ranked 101st, in the world lists. Laura Pigossi, who initially supported Rakotomanga, ranks around 158th in the French tennis rankings.

Rakotomanga's coach, Thomas Delgado, has played a crucial role in her success. Under his guidance, Rakotomanga has been able to overcome challenges and achieve her goals. As she continues to climb the rankings, tennis fans eagerly await her next move.
