Rising Disappointment: Reactions from USA and Ukraine over Putin's Ceasefire Proposal set for May 9th

TrumpFrustrated, Wants Permanent Peace in Ukraine

According to "RIA Novosti", US President Donald Trump is peeved with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. This revelation came from the White House's official representative, Caroline L. Kennedy.

Kennedy stated during a briefing, "Donald Trump is growing frustrated with the leaders of both countries. He wants to see a permanent ceasefire. As I understand it, Vladimir Putin proposed a temporary truce this morning. The President has made it clear that he wants a permanent ceasefire first, to stop the killing and bloodshed."

In response, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, replied to Putin's temporary truce proposal on his social media account. "If Russia truly wants peace, it must immediately stop the fire.

Ukraine's response to Putin's truce proposalWhy wait until May 8? If the fire can be stopped now and for any 30-day period - it's real, not just for a parade.

Ukraine is ready to support a long-term, stable, and permanent ceasefire. And this is what we have been constantly proposing, at least for 30 days",* wrote Kuleba.

It's worth noting that today, the Kremlin announced that, based on humanitarian considerations, Russia will declare a truce from 00:00 on May 7 to 00:00 on May 11, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. Previously, Putin announced a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine until the end of the day on April 20, followed by an Easter truce from 18:00 on April 19 to 00:00 on April 21.

The complexities surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine have left Trump in a rather vulnerable position. He had initially promised to end the war quickly but has since admitted this was an "exaggeration" made in jest. As he remains wary of promising a permanent ceasefire without a mutually acceptable agreement, Trump has criticized both Russian strikes on Ukraine and accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of prolonging the conflict.

Similarly, Putin's stance focuses more on conditional temporary truces rather than a comprehensive agreement, setting specific conditions for any ceasefire agreement. This difference in approach illustrates the intricate and delicate nature of negotiations between the two parties.

  1. Donald Trump, genuinely annoyed by the ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine, has expressed his frustration towards Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's leader, Volodymyr Zelensky.
  2. In response to Putin's proposal for a temporary ceasefire, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, advocated for a truly permanent cessation of hostilities, expressing readiness to support a long-term and stable truce.
  3. Kuleba also questioned Putin's intentions, suggesting that a truce should not be delayed until May 8, and expressed Ukraine's consistent proposal for a 30-day cessation of hostilities.
  4. The intricate and delicate nature of politics involving policy-and-legislation and general-news, particularly the Ukraine conflict, has left Trump in a precarious position, as he navigates between promising a permanent peace and ensuring a mutually agreeable solution.
  5. Putin's policy-and-legislation, which concentrates on conditional temporary truces, contrasts sharply with Trump's persistent demand for a genuine, permanent ceasefire in Ukraine, further complicating the negotiations between the two nations.
