Rising Czech goalie Michal Postava earns emergency call-up to Red Wings
Michal Postava, a 6-foot-1 goaltender from Valasske Mezirici, Czechia, has earned a recall to the Detroit Red Wings under emergency conditions. His strong performances in the AHL and European leagues have marked him as a standout talent between the pipes. Postava began his career with HC Přerov, where he spent five seasons from 2019 to 2024. There, he recorded a 46-46-0 record, a 2.01 goals-against average, and a 0.936 save percentage across 96 appearances. His efforts in the 2023-24 season earned him the title of Best Goaltender in the Czech Republic's second-tier league.
In 2024, he moved to HC Kometa Brno in the top-flight Czech Extraliga. That same season, he posted a 23-18-0 record with a 2.39 goals-against average and a 0.921 save percentage in 42 regular-season games. His playoff run was even more impressive: a 10-7 record, a 1.97 goals-against average, and a 0.940 save percentage in 17 games, helping Brno secure the championship. Before his professional breakthrough, Postava played for Brno's under-20 team between 2020 and 2022. In 21 games, he went 15-6-0 with a 2.45 goals-against average and a 0.928 save percentage. This season, with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, he has continued to excel. Over 21 appearances, he holds a 13-6-0 record, a 1.86 goals-against average, and a 0.932 save percentage. His recent form includes back-to-back shutouts on 17 and 21 January against the Milwaukee Admirals. Weighing in at 200 pounds, Postava's consistency and skill have now earned him a call-up to Detroit's NHL roster under emergency terms.
Postava's career has steadily climbed from Czech junior hockey to a championship-winning role in the Extraliga. His current AHL success and recall to the Red Wings highlight his growing reputation as a reliable netminder. The emergency call-up gives him a chance to prove himself at hockey's highest level.
