Rises once more: Water levels in Oymyakon village
Flooding and Erosion Affect Roads and Settlements in Eastern Siberia
Heavy rainfall in eastern Siberia has caused significant issues for the region, with two major highways and several settlements along the Indigirka River being affected.
The Kolyma highway, a crucial transportation route, has seen erosion on various sections due to the heavy downpour. Similarly, the Oymyakon highway has also suffered from erosion as a result of the rain.
The settlements along the Indigirka River, specifically between Oymyakon village and Ust-Nera settlement, have been hit hard by the current flooding. The affected settlements include Verkhoyansk and Chokurdakh.
The water level in the river is expected to rise further, with predictions of an additional 10 to 20 cm increase within the next 24 hours. This could exacerbate the existing flooding and erosion issues, potentially causing more damage to the affected areas.
Residents and authorities in the region are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the situation. The Russian emergency services are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to respond as needed.
As the rain continues to fall, the situation in eastern Siberia remains fluid, and updates are expected to be provided regularly. It is hoped that the weather will improve soon, helping to mitigate the effects of the flooding and erosion on the region.
