Rise to Power of Kamala Harris absent democratic process

In the political landscape of 2023, a significant development has taken place. Vice President Kamala Harris has officially announced her candidacy for the Democratic party's nomination for President, aiming to secure a place on the ballot for the 2024 election.

Contrary to some misconceptions, Harris did not bypass the primary process to secure the nomination. As Vice President under incumbent President Joe Biden, she was not a candidate in the primaries. Instead, Biden was the Democratic nominee seeking re-election, and Harris continued as his running mate.

The 2024 election saw a close race, with the Biden-Harris ticket losing to former President Donald Trump nationally. However, the primary process was not a factor for Harris, as she was not a separate presidential candidate.

Intriguingly, President Biden withdrew from the presidential race, allowing for a new Democratic ticket for the general election. Harris eventually became the official Democratic nominee for President on August 23rd, having selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party's nomination process for the 2024 election is yet to unfold. Former President Trump, who won 98 out of 99 voting precincts in the Iowa caucuses and garnered 51% of votes, is expected to be a strong contender.

It is worth noting that the Democratic party's nominee selection process is primarily decided by the popular vote-based primaries, rather than state leaders. This democratic process ensures that the party's rank and file have a significant say in who represents them.
