In 2023, there were 131 incidents, which jumped to an alarming 205 in 2024, as reported to the Association of Sinti and Roma. These numbers show that Sinti and Roma individuals are still seen as second-class citizens by many, a persistent issue for their minority, according to Erich Schneeberger, Chairman of the Bavarian state association of the Association of Sinti and Roma. He adds that right-wing populists are actively trying to normalize such prejudices.
The reporting center reports that verbal insults were the most predominant form of violence - incidents occurring in residential areas, during encounters with authorities, and in educational settings. Many children are affected by this discriminatory environment.
