Riots case after May 9: High Court defers hearings on bail petitions filed after Imran Khan's arrest
THAT LAHORE JAM: The Lahore High Court Delays Bail Hearings for Imran Khan Until June 19
In a turn of events, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has pushed the proceedings regarding former PTI chairman Imran Khan's bail petitions for eight cases related to the May 9 unrest to June 19, 2025[1][2]. The delay is to give the court time to collect more information, such as the list of those who've been granted bail in the same cases[2].
On the scene, Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, and Punjab Assembly opposition leader, Ahmad Khan Bhachar, showed up in court.
The LHC also instructed Khan's legal team to gather necessary documentation and assist the court in its proceedings[3].
Earlier, a prosecutor brought up the losses the police endured during the May 9 chaos, amounting to PKR 40 million, while the estimated damage to the Jinnah House alone exceeded PKR 520 million[4]. He also pointed out that Khan refused to comply with the trial court's orders to undergo polygraph and photogrammetric tests[4]. As a consequence, the prosecutor suggested the court dismiss the bail petitions for defying the court's orders.
In response to a court query, the prosecutor clarified that Senator Ejaz Chaudhry had been granted bail due to his unique role among the accused[4].
However, he went on to argue that anyone helping to commit a crime should share the responsibility for the punishment[2]. He alleged that since his ouster from power, Imran Khan has been instigating the masses against government institutions[2].
Initially, an antiterrorism court denied bail to the former prime minister in these eight cases on November 27, 2024[5].
