Rio Mayor Bans Chappell Roan After Security Clash With Footballer's Daughter
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro has banned American singer Chappell Roan from performing at Todo Mundo no Rio, a free international music festival on Copacabana Beach. The decision follows accusations from Brazilian footballer Jorginho, who claimed Roan's security team mistreated his 11-year-old daughter at a hotel in Brazil. Previous headliners of the event include Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Shakira.
The incident began during Lollapalooza Brazil, where Jorginho's daughter had excitedly prepared a sign to support Roan. Days later, while the family was having breakfast, Roan's security approached Jorginho's wife and daughter. They accused the child of harassing the singer and threatened to report her to hotel management.
Jorginho later shared his frustration on Instagram, tagging Roan's account. He wrote that his daughter was left deeply upset, crying for hours after the confrontation. His post included a direct message to Roan: 'WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.'
Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere responded swiftly by barring Roan from the May festival. As a gesture of support, he also invited Jorginho's daughter to attend Todo Mundo no Rio as an honoured guest. Meanwhile, Roan's team has yet to issue a public statement, with insiders suggesting they are reviewing the claims internally before responding.
The ban removes Roan from the lineup of Todo Mundo no Rio, a major event featuring global stars. Jorginho's daughter has been offered a special invitation to the festival, though no further action has been announced. Roan's representatives continue to assess the situation before making any official comment.
