Riley Patterson’s breakout OHL season takes flight with the Barrie Colts
Riley Patterson, a 19-year-old forward, has made a strong impact in the 2025-2026 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season. After starting with the Niagara IceDogs, he has since joined the Barrie Colts, bringing his offensive skills and scoring ability to a new team.
Patterson began the season with the Niagara IceDogs, where he quickly became a key player. Known for his aggressive net-driving style, sharp offensive instincts, and powerful wrist shot, he earned recognition as the OHL’s player of the month in December 2025. That month, he recorded 19 points in just 11 games, helping the IceDogs to a 7-4-0 record.
His success continued as he adapted to a new role, shifting from wing to centre. The change paid off—he now sits fourth in OHL scoring with 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) in 35 games. His consistency has been remarkable, with multi-point performances in nearly half of his appearances this season. The IceDogs’ coaching staff showed confidence in Patterson by giving him expanded responsibilities. This trust, combined with his growing self-assurance, has fuelled his development. Now with the Barrie Colts, he aims to carry this momentum into the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Patterson’s move to the Barrie Colts follows a standout first half of the season. His scoring ability, versatility, and confidence suggest he will remain a player to watch. The Colts will look to benefit from his offensive contributions as the season progresses.
