Right-wing politician Edouard Philippe envisions founding a unified party and contemplates an alliance with Bruno Retailleau.
A Politically Pleasant Tango
The political vendetta between Édouard Philippe and Bruno Retailleau has been anything but harsh. As the Les Républicains party members get ready to choose their party leader, on May 17 and 18, Édouard's Horizons faction and loyalists are pulling out all the politeness stops for the favored candidate, Bruno. According to Christophe Béchu, close to Le Havre's mayor, Édouard, ex-prime minister of Emmanuel Macron, a man with a pro-European and Gaullist heart, shares more common ground with his opposite number than one might think.
Édouard and Bruno, despite being poles apart in terms of politics, have found a way to communicate effectively, as testified by Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Édouard's former head of government and supporter.
"We don't see eye to eye on everything," Édouard admitted in Le Figaro, on April 24th, "but I genuinely believe we complement each other well." The Norman politician seems to forget about the run-ins with Place Beauvau's occupant (the French Interior Ministry) regarding the rule of law, with the latter stating that it should neither be "untouchable nor sacred."

- The seemingly opposing political figures, Édouard Philippe and Bruno Retailleau, are slated to lead their respective factions within Les Républicains party by 2024, displaying a unique unity amidst their contrasting political profiles.
- Despite their diverging political views as exhibited in policy-and-legislation, such as Philippe's pro-European and Gaullist leanings versus Retailleau's more conservative stance, the two appear to share a common ground in effective communication, as demonstrated by their collaborative efforts in the French government.
- With Édouard's tenure as both mayor of Le Havre and Prime Minister of France, and Retailleau's experience as Minister of the Interior and President of the LR group in the Senate, their shared conservative roots offer a solid foundation for potential future partnership in policy matters.
- AsÉdouard Philippe,a centrist politician and a leading member of the Horizons party, garners support for the internal elections in Les Républicains, it is interesting to note the gentle 'tango' that has been unfolding between him and his seemingly polar opposite, Bruno Retailleau, in the realm of French politics and general news.
