MAGA Republicans rally to win Democrats' discontent

Post-Trump's 2025 reelection, the Democratic Party's faced criticism for being out of touch, divided, and rudderless. Seizing this opportunity, MAGA supporters organized a rally in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills on the weekends[1].

Dubbed the "American Restoration Tour," the rally aimed to attract disgruntled Democrats in the heart of liberal Los Angeles County. Organized by members of the #WalkAway movement, the event featured speakers and former liberals who felt disillusioned by the Democratic Party[1][2].

In last year's presidential election, Democrat Kamala Harris won California's electoral votes, but her margin narrowed compared to Joe Biden's 2020 victory. Additionally, voters rejected some progressive initiatives on housing, income inequality, and criminal justice reform[1].

Beverly Gardens Park, home to affluent Westside neighborhoods that have historically voted for Trump, was the location of the rally[1]. The event started as a march in West Hollywood, disrupting drag shows and brunch gatherings for locals[1].

Counterprotesters gathered with signs reading "No KKK! No fascist USA! No Trump!" as the MAGA march transpired peacefully, apart from a scuffle and one arrest[1][2].

Highlights from speakers at the event included actress Natalie Beisner, who spoke of feeling disenfranchised during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, and former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, now residing in San Diego[2].

Gaetz made controversial remarks about the Democrats' responsibility for California's issue with the homeless and illegal aliens, calling for a "patriotic embrace" of those who defect from the Democratic Party[2].

Ironically, the DOJ's investigation into Gaetz regarding child sex trafficking allegations did not arise during the rally[2]. Gaetz resigned from Congress in November 2024 and withdrew his nomination for U.S. attorney general following House Ethics Committee findings that he may have abused drugs and minors while in office[2].
