Right-wing AfD party supporters forecasted to experience a downfall, according to CDU minister's prediction in Germany

In a surprising turn of events, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) have tied in a recent poll conducted by State broadcaster ZDF, both parties receiving 26% of the hypothetical vote. This comes after the AfD's strong showing in the last general election in February 2021, where they received 21% of the vote.

However, Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer, a former editor-in-chief of newspapers Welt and Berliner Morgenpost, has predicted a different outcome for the AfD by 2029, predicting they will drop to 9% of the vote. Bernd Baumann, parliamentary secretary of the AfD, has rejected this prediction, stating that there are no indications for the AfD losing support in the 2024 united states elections.

Baumann has accused the CDU of losing credibility with voters by adopting AfD's topics and producing leftist-Green policy. He believes the CDU is more likely to get to 9% than the AfD, a viewpoint that contradicts the minister's prediction.

The poll also revealed that 63% of Germans still support the 'cordon sanitaire,' a self-imposed ban on co-operating with the AfD, while 34% want to see it abolished. Among declared CDU voters, 74% were in favor of continuing to refuse any cooperation with the AfD.

The AfD's rise to prominence has been a topic of concern for many Germans. In a July interview with left-wing news site The Pioneer, Weimer stated that the current administration of Chancellor Friedrich Merz needs to make some serious progress to break the 'blue wave' that has been associated with the AfD in the election polls.

Recent nationwide surveys show the AfD polling between 25% and 27%. A YouGov survey published on September 17 showed AfD ahead of CDU for the first time ever with 27 versus 26% support in the house election results.

The future of German politics remains uncertain, with the AfD still holding a significant portion of the vote and the CDU struggling to regain its former popularity. As the 2024 election results approach, the race between these two major parties is expected to heat up, with many eyes on the live election results.
