Maeva Squiban Makes History with Back-to-Back Wins at Tour de France Femmes
Maeva Squiban, a rider for UAE Team ADQ, has made history at the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, becoming the first French rider in the modern era to win two stages consecutively. Squiban's victories in stages 6 and 7 demonstrate her individual strength, strategic team support, and tactical prowess.
On stage 6, Squiban launched a 32km solo attack on the Col du Chansert climb and maintained her lead to the finish. In stage 7, she broke clear in a 17-rider group during the race's seventh stage. With 13 riders remaining, Squiban dropped everyone else on the Col du Granier climb and went solo to win, finishing 51 seconds ahead of her nearest competitors.
The stages where Squiban triumphed featured multiple climbs, including first-category and second-category climbs. Her decisive moves happened on significant climbs such as the Col du Chansert and Col du Granier, showcasing her climbing and descending abilities. These extended solo efforts against strong competition, including world champion Lotte Kopecky and former polka dot jersey holder Elise Chabbey, highlight her tactical and physical prowess.
Race leader Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) managed to retain the yellow jersey despite losing contact on the critical climbs where Squiban attacked, indicating that Squiban's efforts primarily secured stage wins rather than the overall lead.
Other notable riders in the 17-rider breakaway included Kasia Niewiadoma, Demi Vollering, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, and Lotte Kopecky. Vollering attempted to take control of the descent but was caught by Le Court before the finish in Chambéry.
Unfortunately, Soraya Paladin crashed and abandoned the race with over 100km to go on day seven of the Tour de France Femmes.
