Tobias Halland Johannessen Remains Eighth in Tour de France General Classification After Hospital Visit

Tobias Halland Johannessen, the 25-year-old Norwegian cyclist for Uno-X Mobility, endured a scare during Stage 16 of the 2025 Tour de France on Mont Ventoux. After experiencing chest pain during the final climb, he was promptly attended to by race doctors and received emergency treatment, including oxygen and intravenous saline.

Despite the incident, Johannessen showed resilience and returned to compete in Stage 17. Medical examinations, including ultrasound, X-rays, blood tests, and ECGs, revealed no abnormalities, and he was cleared to continue racing.

Johannessen finished Stage 16 in 28th place, but his position in the general classification remains unchanged as he is eighth overall. Carlos Rodríguez is close behind in ninth place, with Johannessen having nearly a minute lead over Ben Healy.

Uno-X Mobility team manager Thor Hushovd provided an update on Johannessen's condition to WielerFlits. He praised the swift and professional care his rider received from the race doctors and confirmed that all emergency treatment protocols were followed and approved by UCI medical staff.

Johannessen will go to a local hospital for further checks as advised by the team doctor. An update on his condition will be provided in due course.

Johannessen has been one of the top 10 overall riders at this year's Tour de France since Stage 10 to Le Mont-Dore. His impressive performance includes taking fourth place on Stage 12 to Hautacam. Despite the recent health issue, it's too early to determine how this will affect his performance in the coming days.

Johannessen, a former winner of the Tour de l'Avenir, is determined to continue his fight for a high position in the general classification. TV2, Norway's broadcasting channel, has stated that he should be at the start tomorrow.

The Tour de France continues to captivate audiences, and Johannessen's story serves as a reminder of the challenges and triumphs that come with the world's most prestigious cycling event.
