Hollie Doyle Heads to Hong Kong for a Stint in the Far East

British jockey Hollie Doyle is set to make a trip to Hong Kong this winter, joining the ranks of some of the world's top riders in the Far East. The 26-year-old has been licensed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) to ride at Sha Tin and Happy Valley between November 5 and December 23.

Doyle, who has been a force to reckon with in Britain, has been closing in on a century of winners for the year. With 93 wins under her belt, she is eager to add to her tally before leaving for Hong Kong.

The news of Doyle's trip to Hong Kong comes after she lost her role as retained rider to Imad Al Sagar last month. However, Doyle remains optimistic and sees this as an opportunity to learn and grow.

"I like a challenge, and I want to learn as much as I can in Hong Kong," Doyle said. "It's a completely different way of riding, and I'm excited to experience it."

Doyle will not be the only British jockey in Hong Kong this season. She will be joining Richard Kingscote and David Probert, who have already been licensed to ride in the city. Probert finds Hong Kong a step in the right direction for his style of riding, while Kingscote has had a successful stint in the city in the past.

Meanwhile, Doyle's departure from Britain will leave a void in the jockey ranks. Dylan Browne McMonagle, a 22-year-old Irish jockey, is on the verge of becoming the Irish champion jockey with 77 wins. If he manages to secure more wins, he could potentially take over Doyle's spot as one of the top jockeys in Britain.

In France, Maxime Guyon, 36, is level with Cristian Demuro in the bid for a fifth Cravache d'Or. Guyon, who has 172 wins in France this year, won the Hong Kong Classic Cup, Hong Kong Derby, and Hong Kong Vase in his previous stint in Hong Kong. With 30 Group 1 wins to his credit, Guyon is one of the best riders in the world, alongside the likes of James McDonald, 33, who has 120 Group 1 wins. McDonald has won Group 1 races on Joliestar, Via Sistina, and Crimson Advocate this year.

Charlie Fellowes, a British trainer, is also considering Hong Kong for his Golden Eagle-bound stable star. If Doyle manages to secure a longer-term licence one day, she could potentially join her fellow British jockeys in the city.

Doyle achieved her first win in Hong Kong in 2023, and she is hoping to build on that success during her upcoming stint in the city. With the likes of Guyon, McDonald, and Browne McMonagle also vying for wins, it promises to be an exciting season in Hong Kong.
