Rider fails to respond and succumbs to fate on one of Universal's latest attractions
Universal Epic Universe, the newest addition to the Universal Orlando Resort, has been shrouded in sadness following a tragic incident that occurred on its Stardust Racers roller coaster on September 17, 2025.
A man in his 30s lost his life after becoming unresponsive while riding the popular attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but investigations have ruled out foul play. The cause of death was determined to be blunt impact injuries.
The Universal Orlando Resort has extended its sympathies to the guest's loved ones and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. The attraction was closed immediately following the incident.
Stardust Racers is one of the resort's newest thrill rides, having officially opened at Universal Studios Orlando on May 22, 2025. This dual-launch coaster reaches speeds up to 62 mph and climbs to heights of 133 feet along 5,000 feet of track. The ride features two distinct sides, with thrill seekers often asking about which side is faster and which provides more intense experiences at Universal Studios Orlando.
To ensure the safety of its guests, Universal Studios Orlando has guidelines in place. According to the Universal Orlando Resort's Guide for Safety and Accessibility, which was last updated in April 2025, guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride Stardust Racers. Guests are also required to use provided lockers for loose and free-flowing articles or leave them with a non-riding guest.
Before boarding, riders must pass through metal detectors to ensure prohibited items are not taken onto the attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. Warning signs are also found at the entrance of each attraction to help determine suitability based on guests' abilities. Depending on the ride, warnings may be listed for guests with a history of heart conditions, abnormal blood pressure, expectant mothers, and other health conditions.
The Stardust Racers roller coaster is located in the Celestial Park portion of Universal Epic Universe theme park. The park's app reported that Stardust Racers was closed on Thursday, following the incident.
Universal Epic Universe is a part of Universal Destinations & Experiences, a unit of Comcast NBCUniversal. The theme park officially opened its doors to visitors in May 2025.
As the investigation continues, the Universal Orlando Resort remains committed to the safety and well-being of its guests. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
