Rice priced at $20 per kilo on schedule for delivery
Cebu's Grand Rice Sale Kicks Off 🚀
Get ready, Cebu! Governor Gwendolyn Garcia ensure us that the province-wide, simultaneous sale of P20-per-kilo subsidized rice is on for Thursday, May 1, 2025. 🎉
In a press conference the day prior, Garcia revealed Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. would lead the launch as part of the pilot implementation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s P20-per-kilo rice program in the Visayas region. 🌱
On the big day, not only will the program be launched, but a Kadiwa Center will be set up in the quadrangle of the Provincial Capitol, allowing local farmers to display and sell their produce. 🐔🌽
This event will collaborate with the Department of Labor and Employment's Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program to help our local farmers cover their expenses in transporting their goods to the Capitol. 🚚
An LED wall will be erected at the Capitol, streaming the various towns and component cities participating in this grand rice sale. 📺
Garcia emphasized, "the selling of the rice will be done by the Secretary himself and not us, and not in the presence of the candidates." 🤝
Each Local Government Unit (LGU) in Cebu will have their respective agriculturists lead the selling of subsidized rice in their respective areas, following the same policy as that of the Capitol. 🗺️
To manage potential hoarders, selected beneficiaries will receive Capitol-issued QR-coded cards for purchasing subsidized rice, with a maximum of 10 kilos per week. 💳
Beneficiaries are invited to approach their Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to secure their QR-coded card with a valid ID. 📄
This rice sale method will be implemented through the Capitol's Sugbo Merkadong Barato (SMB) program. 🛍️
A Headstart
