Rian Johnson remains content with the outcome of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker"

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, director Rian Johnson discussed his current projects, which include the third film in the Star Wars sequel series, 'Wake Up Dead Man', due for release in December, and 'Poker Face' for Peacock. Johnson's focus has shifted from Star Wars to a murder mystery after the success of 'Knives Out'.

Johnson, who directed 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' in 2017, was initially announced to create a new Star Wars trilogy. However, Lucasfilm's plans for Johnson's trilogy have been largely shelved or put on indefinite hold, with no official public statements connecting his departure to his work on 'Knives Out' or other projects.

Despite his departure from the Star Wars trilogy, Johnson expressed happiness with making his own projects but also stated that he would be open to returning to Star Wars if given the opportunity. Johnson's work in 'The Last Jedi' was followed by J.J. Abrams' 'The Rise of Skywalker'. According to Johnson, Abrams' work in 'The Rise of Skywalker' was more in conversation with Johnson's work than it may appear. Johnson did not view Abrams as undoing his work in 'The Last Jedi' in 'The Rise of Skywalker'.

Johnson's current projects mark a departure from the galaxy far, far away, but he has not abandoned the possibility of returning to Star Wars. For those who have problems with Star Wars films, Johnson suggested checking YouTube for a better understanding of the franchise.

The changeover from 'The Last Jedi' to 'The Rise of Skywalker' has elicited various reactions from viewers. Johnson did not feel resentful about how things shook out in 'The Rise of Skywalker'. Instead, he enjoyed watching the film. Johnson is currently working on 'Wake Up Dead Man' alongside two sequels, demonstrating his commitment to bringing fresh and exciting projects to audiences.

Io9 and Gizmodo have reported on Rian Johnson's recent focus on projects outside the Star Wars universe. In a future filled with technology and entertainment, Johnson is set to release 'Wake Up Dead Man', a movie slated for release in December 2021. Meanwhile, Johnson's 'Poker Face' will be available on Peacock, marking a departure from his past work in movies-and-tv such as 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'.
