Rheinsteig Trail Closed After Landslide Blocks Popular Hiking Route
A significant part of the Rheinsteig trail has been shut down due to a landslide. The closure stretches from Knobsalm down to Mühlbach Valley after part of the slope above Knobsalm collapsed. Authorities are warning hikers to avoid the area for safety reasons.
Heavy rain and unstable ground caused a section of the Mühlberg slope to give way. The collapse forced officials to close the popular hiking route entirely. The Civil Engineering and Surveying Office has stressed that the path will remain off-limits until repairs are complete.
Work to stabilize the slope and fix the damage has already begun. Crews expect the job to take around four weeks. In the meantime, alternative routes will be marked with clear signs to guide walkers around the affected area.
The trail will stay closed until engineers confirm it is safe to reopen. Hikers are advised to follow the posted detours and check for updates before planning trips. The repairs aim to restore full access as soon as possible.
