Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link Iran verbifies the demise of the leader of the Revolutionary Guards. Gen. Hossein Salami apparently perished during the Israeli assault on the notorious elite unit's command center. The head of the General Staff, however, is reportedly still alive.

In a coordinated Israeli offensive in Iran, a high-ranking officer of the formidable Revolutionary Guards was killed. General Major Hussein Salami is believed to have been slain during an attack on the Revolutionary Guards’ top command headquarters, according to the news agency Tasnim, a mouthpiece for the Iranian elite force. Salami was one of the most influential figures in the Islamic Republic up until his demise.

Official sources from Israeli security circles claimed that, in addition to Salami, "probably Mohammad Bagheri," the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, "was neutralized." However, the state-run news agency IRNA declared that Bagheri is safely stationed at a command center.

Both Mohammed Mehdi Tehrantschi, a professor of physics, and Fereydun Abbasi, the former head of Iran's atomic program, are reported to have perished in the attack, according to the news agency. As per Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanjahu, the Israeli air raids targeted the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz and related scientists.

The Revolutionary Guards are Iran's elite military force and hold significantly more power than the regular armed forces. Over the past few decades, they have not only been militarily fortified but also expanded their social and economic influence, with holdings in sectors such as hospitality and aviation.

Israel, according to its own account, has attacked dozens of military and nuclear targets in Iran. The US news outlet Axios reports that, while the air force was in action, Israel's intelligence agency Mossad also initiated a series of covert sabotage operations in Iran. Axios cites a high-ranking Israeli government official.
