Revolutionary Battery Tech Promises More Efficient, Affordable, Eco-friendly Electric Vehicles

Researchers at the Technical University of Brunswick have developed a revolutionary process for producing lithium-ion accumulator electrodes. This new method, which uses granulate-based material with minimal solvent, promises to make batteries more efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly. Key industry players like Volkswagen, BASF, VARTA Microbattery GmbH, and Coperion GmbH are collaborating to bring this groundbreaking technology to market.

The new process, part of the GranuGoIn project, focuses on reducing production costs and strengthening Germany's technological and economic competitiveness. It eliminates much of the energy-intensive drying process, making batteries more affordable and sustainable.

The granulate-based material offers increased storage stability, enabling more flexible, decoupled production. This improves the quality of the produced electrodes, ensuring a stable power supply from renewable energy sources and expanding electric mobility.

The project partners are working together to optimize granulate dosing, integrate inline measurement technology for quality assurance, and scale the process for industrial use, benefiting both anodes and cathodes. By fostering knowledge transfer between science and industry, the GranuGoIn project aims to establish a sustainable, competitive battery value chain in Germany.

The new granulate-based production process for lithium-ion accumulator electrodes, developed by the Technical University of Brunswick in collaboration with major industry partners, is set to revolutionize the battery news market. By reducing costs, improving quality, and enhancing sustainability, this innovation will drive the expansion of electric mobility and ensure a stable power supply from renewable energy sources, further bolstering Germany's competitive edge in the global market.
