In a shocking turn of events, Anas al-Quds, a long-standing correspondent for Al-Jazeera, was targeted and killed by the Israeli military in a deliberate airstrike on a media tent outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on August 10, 2025. The attack also claimed the lives of three other Al-Jazeera employees.

The strike, which has been internationally condemned, took place as al-Quds was reporting from Gaza, a region that has been embroiled in conflict for many years. Israel has justified the strike by claiming that al-Quds was a Hamas combatant, but major news organizations and analysts have questioned this allegation, citing the lack of proof.

Al-Quds, who was known for his consistent and courageous reporting from Gaza despite personal risk, was with five other journalists at the time of the airstrike. However, Israel's military has not commented on the other five victims of the attack.

The attack on the journalists has been viewed as an intentional targeting of media personnel to suppress independent reporting on the war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Reporters Without Borders reports a total of six journalists died in the attack.

Despite the Israeli military's claims of having intelligence information and documents found in Gaza that allegedly prove Anas al-Quds' military affiliation with Hamas, no explanation has been given for the targeting of the journalists. The Israeli military has not provided a reason for targeting al-Quds specifically among the journalists.

The Israeli newspaper "Times of Israel" reported the lack of explanation regarding the targeting of al-Quds, adding to the international criticism the attack has elicited. The attack on the journalists two days ago remains unexplained by the Israeli military.
