Revised arena district plans propose a pump track in place of ice stock facilities
Mittenwald, Germany, is set to transform the long-unused ice surface 2 at the Arena into a mobile pump track facility, subject to the successful acquisition of funding. The idea for the facility arose during discussions about the summer use of the ice sports hall.
The mobile pump track, a popular choice worldwide, consists of wave-shaped, asphalted or modularly assembled racetracks on which one can move with bicycles, scooters, or skateboards — simply by shifting weight, without pedaling.
The town council, in a large majority (20:1), has approved this project. The estimated total costs of the project are around 125,000 euros. If the project is successful in the Leader project selection, the facility could be operational by 2026.
The funding is only available until the end of 2027, and the application for it had to be submitted by July 2025. The building and environmental committee has recommended submitting a funding application for the mobile pump track facility.
The facility's location is still under discussion. Benedikt Zunterer (CSU) suggests a more central location, such as one of the green spaces next to the community house near the playground. On the other hand, Ludwig Hornsteiner (CSU) finds the ice rink place better for the facility due to fewer problems with neighbours due to noise emissions.
The mobile pump track facility, due to its modular design, could be flexibly expanded or moved to other locations in the future. Potential uses for the facility include e-bike courses for seniors, as suggested by Dieter Schermak and Benedikt Zunterer.
However, not everyone is in favour of the new facility. Josef Schandl (Free Voters) believes that the new facility is unnecessary, as there is already a training course by the Bike Club on the former indoor pool area. Mayor Enrico Corongiu emphasizes that the planned sports facility is not comparable to the Bike Club's course on the indoor pool area.
As of now, there are no relevant search results regarding the Mittenwald municipality's funding decision for a mobile pump track facility at the Arena ice stadium by July 2025. For up-to-date information, consider checking official Mittenwald municipal sources or local news outlets.
The second ice surface at the stadium is seen by the administration as ideal for alternative leisure activities. The project aims to offer a new leisure option for children, young people, and sports enthusiasts. If the project is successful, Mittenwald could be set to offer a unique and exciting addition to its recreational facilities.
