Sting Back at Jan Böhmermann with Revenge Honey!
Meissen, Saxony - A beekeeper from Saxony is giving TV satirist Jan Böhmermann (42, ZDF) a taste of his own medicine! Böhmermann's show featured a video of beekeeper Rico Heinzig (46) promoting his bee app, but instead of praise, Heinzig received harsh criticism. Now, Heinzig is turning the tables, using Böhmermann's invective and fame to promote his honey business.
Heinzig, the owner of 200 bee colonies in Dresden's Elbe Valley, offers organic honey, and through his Meissen startup "MyHoney," sponsors bees for hotels and individuals.
Heinzig recalls, "I'm not fond of Böhmermann and his fee-financed post-mortem. I learned that he had stolen my video from the internet and used it to mock me on his show."
Böhmermann featured Heinzig as an example of a man making business from sponsoring honey bees. But it's not the farmed bees that face extinction, but the wild ones.
Heinzig created the term "beewashing" (derived from "greenwashing") as a satirical jab at sponsorship beekeepers like himself, labeling them freeloaders profiting from the eco-wave.
Initially, Heinzig considered filing a lawsuit. But then he decided, "The joker Böhmermann would probably be most annoyed if I turned the tables on him."
So, Heinzig bottled his revenge honey from his Göhrischgut estate near Meissen, labeled as "beewashing honey." He also produced advertising displays for supermarkets, featuring Jan Böhmermann as a "leading bee and beetle expert."
And the "Böhmermann" honey is a hit online! "Orders pour in daily. I've heard that fans of the TV personality are among them," explains Heinzig.
"A good patent attorney approved everything. I'm responding to Böhmermann's nonsense with counter-satire," Heinzig adds.
The media in Leipzig, Dresden, and Chemnitz regions have also taken notice of Rico Heinzig's bee business due to his conflict with satirist Jan Böhmermann. Intriguingly, other beekeepers from these regions have also expressed interest in the famous "Böhmermann" honey.
