Revealed fate of Destination X - following BBC's cancellation of television's costliest failure

The BBC is considering a second series of the hit show "Destination X," despite the recent cancellation of the reality show "Survivor."

According to an insider speaking to the Daily Star, there is strong internal support for a renewal of "Destination X" in 2026. The source said, "everyone at the BBC thinks Destination X is a cracking show" and that they want to bring it back next year. However, the BBC has not yet formally confirmed a second series for 2026.

The Independent also reports that the BBC has been contacted for official comment but has not made any formal announcement regarding a second series of "Destination X."

"Destination X" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer. The show, which has been reported to have a large following, is led by Rob Brydon. Contestants travel on an X-bus with blacked-out windows, attempting to figure out their location in Europe. Each episode, the person who marks their X furthest away from the actual location is sent home. The winner of the show will receive £100,000.

Meanwhile, the cancellation of "Survivor" has been referred to as television's most expensive flop. Host Joel Dommett, who previously participated in "I'm A Celebrity," revealed that the show has been cancelled permanently. Joel Dommett had believed "Survivor" would be his job for the next 20 years.

The reality show's cancellation comes after speculation that a second series was paused. "Survivor" is a show that had been reported to have a large following, with Dommett expressing surprise at its cancellation.

The BBC thinks highly of "Destination X" and believes it could become one of the biggest shows on TV. While the future of "Destination X" remains uncertain, fans of the show will be eagerly awaiting the BBC's official announcement regarding a second series.
