In a thrilling display of endurance and skill, Lotte Kopecky clinched victory at the Paris-Roubaix 2024 race, riding with her team SD Worx-Protime and the new Mondo tyres from Specialized.

The Mondo tyres, not purpose-built for gravel, have found a sweet spot between speed on the road and control on light gravel. With a rough sidewall texture, they showed promise in terms of sidewall cuts resistance during the race.

The 35mm Mondo tyres were set up tubeless at home, without the need for an air compressor, demonstrating their ease of use. The new tyres, designed for endurance riding on and off asphalt, are part of a growing category of "thick slicks" tyres.

Weighing around 310g to 360g, depending on width, the new Mondo tyres offer a balance between speed and durability. They have undergone extensive testing, including at the 2024 Paris-Roubaix, and have been spotted at Strade Bianche and early-season gravel races.

The first real-world test of the Mondo tyres took place on a local climb up South Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. The new Mondo retained speed on the road and had the dynamism to handle rocks and unevenness on light gravel. The Mondo tyres yielded the second-fastest time up the South Mountain climb, only a few seconds off a personal best from 2017.

The new Mondo tyres' sidewalls feature a "mesh" design and criss-cross pattern, adding to their durability and puncture-resistance. The tyres also retain a faster rubber core with Gripton T2/T5 dual compound, ensuring they perform well on both gravel and smooth trails.

The new Mondo is available in two versions: the Mondo TLR (tubeless) and the Mondo Folding (clincher). This versatility makes them an appealing option for a broad spectrum of riders and riding surfaces.

In a testament to their performance, the new Mondo tyres have proven to be a game-changer in the endurance tyre category. They offer better all-around options, evolving the category to meet the needs of modern riders.

As Lotte Kopecky rode the new Mondo to victory at the 2024 Paris-Roubaix, it's clear that these tyres are set to make a significant impact in the world of cycling.
