Returned to Ukraine: 16 Children Reunited from Controlled Regions

In a series of heartwarming developments, several families and children have been reunited with Ukraine after spending years in Russian-occupied territories.

The most recent reunion involves 15-year-old Polina, who was rescued from territories under Russian control and reunited with her family in Ukraine. Polina's parents and older brother have been in captivity for over two years in Russia. Their house was burned to the ground in the occupied territories, leaving them with only the clothes on their backs.

Similarly, 15-year-old Viktoriia has returned to Ukraine after living under Russian occupation for the past three years. Viktoriia's family lived almost entirely locked up within four walls to avoid Russian soldiers.

Two sisters, 14-year-old Valeriia and 7-year-old Alina, have also been rescued and reunited with Ukraine. The family of Myroslav, a 10-year-old boy, faced a harrowing ordeal as Russian authorities attempted to take him away from his biological parents. Fortunately, they have now been reunited and are receiving psychological support, restoring their documents, and learning to live a normal life again.

The Russian authorities have been accused of fabricating cases against individuals and sentencing them to more than 15 years for 'espionage.' Moreover, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia's children's commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova in 2023 for the illegal deportation of children from occupied Ukraine to Russia.

The Russian authorities have been under scrutiny for attempting to take children away from their families in the occupied territories. Representatives of the occupying 'child welfare service' have demanded guardianship formalization for several children, including Myroslav.

These families and children have endured hardships and fear every day under the Russian occupation. Now, they are safe in Ukraine, finding solace and hope for a brighter future.
