UAE Mediates Release of 84 Russian and Ukrainian POWs, Soldiers Receive Medical and Psychological Aid
In an unprecedented move, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) acted as the mediator in the exchange of 84 Russian servicemen and 84 Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoners of war on August 14, 2025. This exchange, which received official acknowledgment from both Moscow and Kyiv, marked a significant step towards peace in the ongoing conflict.
Following their return, the Russian soldiers are currently receiving psychological and medical aid in Belarus. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the released servicemen will subsequently be transported to Russia for further treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions of the Russian Ministry of Defense. This organized care ensures that the soldiers receive the necessary support to recover from their ordeal.
While in Belarus, the soldiers have the opportunity to contact their relatives, providing a much-needed lifeline for those affected by the conflict. Once they have received the necessary care, they will be transported to Russia to continue their recovery in the country's military medical facilities.
The UAE's role as a mediator in this exchange highlights its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. This humanitarian gesture comes at a time when the world is looking for solutions to end the conflict and bring about a lasting peace.
