Charles Noakes: The Para-Badminton Champion on a Mission

Charles Noakes, the golden boy of para-badminton, continues to shine brightly on the international stage following his historic gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The SH6 category champion has his sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics, aiming to defend or even improve his status as a para-badminton powerhouse.

Noakes has been maintaining a strong presence on the para-badminton circuit, with impressive performances at major events such as the 2025 British & Irish Para Badminton International. His victory in this tournament, marked by a grueling opening match and challenging competition against top European and international athletes, showcases his commitment to sustaining top form through the Paralympic cycle.

Following his gold medal win, Noakes expressed surprise and focus, stating his primary goal was to give his all rather than to expect victory. This grounded mindset, combined with his ongoing participation in major events, reflects the trajectory of a dedicated elite athlete building on Paralympic success.

Noakes has become a public figure in France, attracting sponsors and being invited to numerous interviews and conferences. Despite his newfound fame, he remains true to his motto: "be small, but dream big." His mother, Sylvie Noakes, notes a newfound confidence in him, believing he can accomplish things he didn't think were possible a few years ago.

In his daily life, Noakes continues to live with his parents. The challenges he faced in his youth, including people making fun of him while taking pictures, have only fueled his determination to prove that anything is possible with determination. Noakes aspires to make history in badminton at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, using his status as a role model to bring hope and inspire others.

After the Paris Games, Noakes has been training seven hours a day. He finds a sense of calm by returning to training, using it as a means to focus and prepare for future challenges. His coach, Mourad Amrani, mentions a "blues" after the Games, but Noakes' unwavering dedication and ambition ensure that he is ready to face the next chapter in his para-badminton journey.
