Return of the Laver Cup to London's O2 Arena in 2026 Tournament
London, the city where tennis legend Roger Federer bid a fitting farewell to his career, has been selected as the venue for the 2026 Laver Cup. This fourth visit to the O2 Arena will mark thefirst time the tournament returns to a previous host city.
Next year's competition represents the ninth iteration of the event, which rotates between European and global locations. The O2 Arena offers a perfect setting, boasting substantial commercial and hospitality opportunities.
As Laver Cup chairman and TEAM8 CEO, Tony Godsick, explains, "London is one of the great cities of the world, and we need big arenas. There aren't many of those around Europe."
The Laver Cup debuted in 2017 in Prague, emulating golf's Ryder Cup format by pitting six European players against a worldwide team over three days. Team Europe currently leads the all-time series 5-2, with the 2025 event scheduled in San Francisco's Chase Center.
For the 2026 competition, Yannick Noah (Team Europe) and Andre Agassi (Team World) will serve as captains, replacing Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe who have led their teams since the inaugural event. Federer, a co-founder of the Laver Cup, retired after the 2022 event at the O2 Arena, yet the tournament has remained sold out since.
The O2 was the world's busiest entertainment venue in 2021, hosting 202 shows and 2.6 million attendees, according to Billboard. The AEG-owned venue also houses a thriving shopping and entertainment district that drew over 10 million visitors. Laver Cup organizers collaborated with AEG for the 2022 event and will do so again in 2024 at the AEG-operated Uber Arena in Berlin.
The upcoming renovation of the U.S. Open Tennis home in New York, with an estimated cost of $800 million, should not be confused with the Laver Cup's return to London. The Laver Cup will continue to be hosted at various locations worldwide.
Federer, who retired at the 2022 Laver Cup, expressed eagerness to return to London as a fan, reminiscing about his memorable sendoff and past ATP Finals victories at the O2 Arena.
