The BBC is set to re-release the classic 1969 serial 'The War Games' in color, marking the first time the 10-part series from Doctor Who's sixth season will be presented in technicolor. Originally aired in black and white, this iconic serial will air on TV and be available on BBC iPlayer on December 23.

Directed by David Leitch, the remake of 'The War Games' promises updated score and visuals, as well as a potential change in the Doctor's regeneration process. In the original version, the Doctor's regeneration, played by Patrick Troughton, was a horrifying, nightmarish sequence. However, the trailer for the technicolor airing hints at a regeneration process more in line with the show's now default glowing flames around the Doctor's body.

In 'The War Games,' the Second Doctor, along with companions Jamie and Zoe, discover an alien named the War Lord who has plucked soldiers from Earth history and brainwashed them into fighting each other. The War Lord aims to use the survivors as an army to conquer the galaxy. This episode is considered one of the most important in Doctor Who's history.

'The War Games' is not just a significant episode for Doctor Who, but also for the Doctor himself. The Doctor's regeneration in this serial is originally a punishment for breaking the Time Lords' non-interference rule. The changes in the new version may affect how the Doctor regenerates into Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor.

Russell T. Davies, the current Doctor Who showrunner, has stated that the changes in 'The War Games' will not affect its original form's availability on BBC iPlayer. This means fans can still watch the black-and-white version of the series.

This remake of 'The War Games' is not the only exciting news in the world of science fiction. Upcoming releases for Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe, and future plans for Doctor Who are also causing a stir among fans. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting projects.
