Title: Bonn Triathlon Roars Back: A Comeback After Five Years

In a thrilling turn of events, the Bonn Triathlon is ready to make a splash once again after a five-year hiatus. Over 1,200 athletic souls are gearing up to tackle the 3.8K swim, 60K cycle, and 15K run on Sunday morning.

At 9:15 AM sharp, these champions began their aquatic adventure at the ferry near Bonn Bogen, heading towards the city center. The cycling route meanders through Ennert and the picturesque Siebengebirge, before the competitors hit the pavement for a run along the Rhine, culminating at the Kennedy Bridge.

Triumph Over Adversity

The Bonn Triathlon's absence was felt keenly for five long years. Initially, the pandemic sweepingly blocked its path. Then, troubles surfaced with the cycling routes due to construction sites. Arne Wenzel from Bonn Triathlon, one of the teams that banded together to reinstate this triumphant moment, shed some light: "It's been a tough road, but here we are, ready to race!"

Bonn's effervescent Mayor, Katja Dörner (B'90/Die Grünen), took on the patronage and pronounced a stirring speech at the rebirth of the event. Close to 1,200 athletes are participating, with 200 teams joined together in spirited relay format.

Those residing in the vicinity of the route should anticipate traffic restrictions and are encouraged to keep clear of competition zones. Co-organizer Wenzel emphasized, "If you can, stay away from Beuel City Center and Oberkassel Straße from 7 AM to 2 PM."

"Dream Team" Forms: Olympic Champ Joins the Fray

Tuesday was a prelude to the main event as athletes tested the route, with around 300 participants diving into the Rhine for a test swim. One of these swimmers was none other than Lasse Lührs, the Olympic relay champion in triathlon. Alas, an injury prevents him from undertaking the entire triathlon, but he's found a formidable team via Instagram.

Pascal Buck from Eckernförde will be the powerhouse in the water, Paula Günther will stride her way to glory on land, and Lührs will rule the roads on his bike. "I can't wait to see my new team in action," said Paula Günther with a fierce glint in her eye. Lührs echoed her sentiment, adding, "Given the chance, I'd love to race the entire triathlon as well."
