Reversin' It Up: 100 Klicks Backwards - An Electric Tractor-Trailer's Guinness World Record Dream
Tractor-trailer aiming to outdo distance record by reversing 100 kilometers - Retrograde journey attempt: Pursuit of a record with a horse-drawn carriage, covering a distance of 100 kilometers
Forward ain't always the way, lyin' in reverse can break world records. That's what 50-year-old Bundeswehr officer Marco Hellgrewe is aiming for, planning to conquer the Guinness Book of Records with a battery-electric long-haul truck. This badass visionary is set to cover over 100 kilometers in reverse gear at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on June 4th. Daimler Truck, the geniuses behind the eActros 600, are climbing aboard this electrifying journey, too.
Werneuchen-based Hellgrewe's got hall-of-fame experience under his belt. In 2008, he covered 64 kilometers in reverse gear with a diesel truck and took about five and a half hours. Now, he's aiming for the stars—or at least the Guinness Record's gold-plated trophy. The current record, held by a diesel truck in the USA, clocks in at 89 kilometers set in 2020. But our man's no slouch, planning to drive around 30 kilometers from Oschersleben to Halberstadt under police escort, showcasing the eActros 600's impressive reach.
The eActros 600's the mainevent here, with Marco behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer, cruising at speeds between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour. A lap on Oschersleben's Motorsport Arena is approximately 3.7 kilometers long and has 14 twists and turns. Hellgrewe, the brains behind the operation, is ready to conquer the circuit's tight layout, using his formidable skills to break the record.

(Note: The current Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven in reverse with a tractor-trailer is held by a diesel truck in the US, covering 89 kilometers. Marco Hellgrewe aims to break this record using Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ all-electric eActros 600 by reversing over 100 kilometers non-stop. The attempt will occur on June 4, 2025, at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben in Germany, followed by a 30 km public-road segment to Halberstadt under police escort. Challenges include maintaining speeds and managing battery efficiency during the extended reverse operation. Daimler Truck provides the eActros 600 to showcase its maneuverability and zero-emission capabilities.)
