Retiring the jersey of former Canada captain and Portland Thorns player, Christine Sinclair, is imminent.

Christine Sinclair, one of the greatest soccer players in history, is set to retire from the game after a remarkable career. The retirement ceremony will take place on Oct. 4, 2025, before the Portland Thorns take on Bay FC.

Throughout her illustrious career, Sinclair has been a dominant force in women's soccer. She has been an eight-time nominee for FIFA World Player of the Year, a testament to her consistent excellence on the pitch.

Sinclair's trophy cabinet is filled with numerous accolades. She has won the NWSL Challenge Cup and the Women's International Champions Cup with Portland Thorns, as well as the 2020 Fall Series. Sinclair has also captained Portland to three NWSL Championships and two NWSL Shields.

In addition to her club success, Sinclair has also been a key player for the Canadian national team. She has been named Canada Women's Soccer Player of the Year 14 times, an impressive feat that highlights her impact on the team. At the senior level, Sinclair has 54 assists in her 331 appearances for Canada.

One of Sinclair's most significant achievements is holding the record for the most goals scored by any player, male or female, with 190 goals at the international level. This record is a testament to her unmatched goal-scoring ability and her dedication to the game.

In a touching tribute, the Portland Thorns are retiring Sinclair's No. 12 jersey, a number she chose as a tribute to former Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Roberto Alomar. Sinclair will also be inducted into the Thorns Hall of Fame as part of the retirement ceremony.
