Retaining Thunderous Flare, Siegemund Advances Wimbledon's Captivating Narrative
**Laura Siegemund Makes History at Wimbledon 2025**
Laura Siegemund, the 37-year-old German tennis player, has made history by becoming the oldest first-time women's singles quarter-finalist at Wimbledon in the Open Era. This remarkable achievement came at the age of 37 years and 118 days old, surpassing the previous record held by Martina Navratilova who achieved this feat at the age of 34.
Siegemund's journey to the quarterfinals began with a tough match against Argentine player Solana Sierra on Court No. 2. The match was temporarily suspended due to heavy rain and lightning, but resumed after a 77-minute delay. During the match, Siegemund broke Sierra's serve immediately after the resumption and went on to win the first set with a score of 6:3, after 48 minutes of play. The second set followed suit, with Siegemund securing a 6:2 victory.
Siegemund's path to the quarterfinals was not easy. In the 2020 French Open, she lost as an unseeded player to Czech Petra Kvitova. However, her performance at Wimbledon 2025 was impressive, with victories over former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez and top seed Madison Keys, which marked her first time reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon.
Siegemund will now face the winner of the match between world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Belgian Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals. This is not her first time making it to the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam tournament. In 2020, she reached the quarterfinals at the French Open, a notable achievement in her career.
Interestingly, Siegemund and her partner Beatriz Haddad Maia have also reached the quarterfinals in the doubles competition at Wimbledon. However, Siegemund had to withdraw from the mixed doubles due to a heavy workload.
Siegemund's performance at Wimbledon 2025 marks a significant milestone in her career, demonstrating a late-career milestone breakthrough in Grand Slam singles competition. She is now a member of the exclusive Last-8 Club at Wimbledon, which offers lifetime tickets and other perks to quarterfinalists.

More tennis matches await Siegemund as she progresses to the quarterfinals, with an opportunity to participate in more sports competitions at Wimbledon 2025. In the upcoming round, she will face either Aryna Sabalenka or Elise Mertens, aiming to make a second Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance following her 2020 French Open achievement.
