Results revealed on the participation of Washington state voters in the 2024 presidential election
In the 2024 elections, voting patterns varied significantly across different demographic groups and regions. Here's a breakdown of some key findings.
Historically, adults 65 and older tend to vote at the highest rate of any age group, a trend that continued in the 2024 elections. Nationwide, the highest voting rate among this demographic was 65.3%, with New Jersey leading the way at 84.7%. However, West Virginia recorded the lowest voting rate among adults 65 and older at 62.8%.
On the other end of the spectrum, young adults (18-24) tend to vote at a lower rate than older adults. The lowest turnout for this age group was in Arizona, with just 31.9% of eligible voters casting their ballots. Contrastingly, the highest turnout was in Washington, D.C., where 73.2% of eligible 18-24 year olds voted. Washington state, too, saw a relatively high turnout among young voters, but they still had the lowest turnout among all demographic groups, at 49.7%.
Nationally, only 17 states, plus the District of Columbia, had a majority of eligible 18-24 year olds voting in the 2024 elections.
Among racial and ethnic groups in Washington state, the highest turnout was among white, non-Hispanic voters, at 75.5%. Turnout among Black voters was 49.2%, and among Hispanic voters, it was 50.9%. Asian voters in Washington state had a turnout of 52.6%.
Interestingly, four states had a higher voting rate among men than women: Ohio, South Carolina, Idaho, and Maine. Nationwide, 66.9% of eligible women and 63.7% of eligible men voted.
These figures underscore the importance of encouraging voter participation, particularly among underrepresented demographic groups. As we look forward to future elections, it's crucial to continue efforts to make voting accessible and engaging for all eligible citizens.
