Arnsberg Municipal Elections: Bittner Re-elected as Mayor, Integration Council Results Announced
In the recent municipal elections held in Arnsberg, Germany, incumbent Mayor Ralf Paul Bittner (SPD) secured an absolute majority of 57.30% of the votes, ensuring his re-election for another term.
The elections, held at 63 polling stations and 23 postal voting stations, saw a total of approximately 59,100 eligible voters, including around 3,100 first-time voters. A significant number of voters chose to cast their ballots by post, with 25.84% of the votes being submitted in this manner.
In the election for the City Council of Arnsberg, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) received 36.64% of the votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SPD) received 34.81%. The total number of seats in the City Council is 47, and the preliminary distribution of seats shows the CDU with 17 seats, the SPD with 16, Alliance 90/The Greens with 4, FDP with 1, AfD with 6, The Party with 1, The Left with 1, and SBL with 1.
Meanwhile, the election for the Integration Council of the City of Arnsberg also took place. Preliminary results show Independent Candidate Boege leading with 57.67%, followed by Hand in Hand with 23.29%, Independent Candidate Diallo with 9.49%, and Independent Candidate Shreetah with 9.55%. However, only 6 of the 14 seats in the Integration Council were filled, and the voter turnout was relatively low at 13.42%.
Ralf Paul Bittner, the re-elected Mayor, is a former police officer who studied public administration and held various leadership positions within the police in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Born in 1966 in Arnsberg, he grew up in Arnsberg-Oeventrop and has seven children.
The city was divided into 63 electoral districts and 23 voting districts for the elections. The voter turnout for the City Council elections was 56.6%, indicating a strong participation from the citizens of Arnsberg in the democratic process.
The results of the elections reflect the diverse political landscape of Arnsberg, with various parties and independent candidates vying for positions in the City Council and the Integration Council.
