Potential Hazardous Scenario Details - Restructuring of Regensburg CSD: A Potential Change in Security Landscape
The Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Regensburg faces a change of plans due to a "nebulous threat." Alexander Irmisch, the event organizer, shared this news with the press service DPA. According to Irmisch, the well-being of participants and security personnel takes priority over anything else. Previously, local newspaper Mittelbayerische Zeitung reported on the threat situation.
Despite Irmisch's claims, a spokesperson from the Bavarian State Criminal Office has dismissed accusations of ongoing investigations: "There's currently no investigation underway at our office."
Regensburg CSD takes a step back, not a retreat
Following discussions with the police and city officials, Irmisch and his team have decided to alter the event plans independently. The parade route through the old town will be shortened, and there will be a stationary event on the Domplatz.
Highlighting the temporary nature of these changes, Irmisch said, "This is not a long-term solution; we're backing down for this year. However, I'm determined that we should be able to carry out this event safely."
Sadly, CSD events throughout Germany have become targets of queerphobic attacks and online threats. Kai Boelle, a board member of the CSD Germany association, recently informed DPA about the escalating levels of these threats. Additionally, extremist groups, both far-right and Islamist, have been actively advocating for counteractions. Boelle stated, "This has taken on a new quality." In response, police forces nationwide are working diligently to secure the demonstrations.
In mid-May, the Christopher Street Day in Gelsenkirchen was unfortunately canceled at the last minute due to a similar "nebulous threat."
The origination of the threat letter against the Regensburg CSD has not yet been definitively pinned down by Irmisch. "At present, I can't pin it to any specific group." He declined to disclose the content of the letter, citing ongoing investigations.
