Restrictions temporarily imposed at Gelendzhik Airport at midday on Aug 8
In the Krasnodar region of Russia, a series of drone attacks have been targeting the area, causing disruptions and heightened security concerns. As a result, temporary flight restrictions were imposed at Gelendzhik Airport on August 8, 2025.
The press service of the Anapa administration announced these restrictions, which temporarily limited the reception and departure of aircraft at Gelendzhik Airport. The decision was made to ensure flight safety amid ongoing drone threats in the region.
The reason for these restrictions can be traced back to multiple incidents in early August. On August 3, strike drones hit Sochi and the Adler district, causing fires at an oil depot. Earlier attacks on July 24 and 25 also targeted oil depots near Sochi Airport, reflecting an ongoing pattern of drone threats in the area.
These incidents prompted air defense alerts, evacuation of civilians in some areas, and temporary airport and border checkpoint closures for safety. On August 8, multiple southern Russian cities including Sochi and Gelendzhik were put on air raid alerts, with air defense systems reported to be actively engaging and shooting down drones over the sea near Krasnodar. This led to temporary closures and restrictions at several airports, including Gelendzhik and Sochi.
Due to these security incidents, flight operations were temporarily paused at Gelendzhik Airport. However, the airport resumed operations on August 10, accepting its first flight since the restrictions began.
The situation in the Kuban region is not limited to airports. On the night of August 7, a man was injured in Slaviansk-na-Kubani due to a drone shot down. The injured man was transported to Krasnodar for medical treatment. Residents have been advised to remain calm, stay indoors, and take shelter in windowless rooms until the danger is resolved.
The Investigative Committee is currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and evaluating the actions of all parties involved. Separate messages were sent to users of the MCHS app in Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, and other municipalities, alerting them of the potential threat of drone falls.
As the situation continues to develop, it is essential for residents and visitors to follow safety guidelines and remain vigilant. The temporary flight restrictions at Gelendzhik Airport are a testament to the ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security in the region.
