Restored versions of the films Kranti and Shaheed showcased at a patriotic film festival in four urban locations
Har Ghar Tiranga Patriotic Film Festival Showcases India's Rich Cultural Heritage
From August 11 to 13, 2025, the Har Ghar Tiranga Patriotic Film Festival will be held across four cities in India: New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai. Organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in collaboration with the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), this festival aims to celebrate India’s freedom struggle and national unity through cinema.
The festival will feature digitally restored versions of several patriotic films, including Kranti (1981) and Shaheed (1965). These classics have been preserved using advanced preservation techniques by NFAI, ensuring that future generations can still enjoy these iconic works.
The lineup also includes films like Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (2024), Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), and RRR (2022), alongside historical documentaries providing deeper context about India’s freedom movement. For instance, Lokmanya Tilak chronicles the life and political awakening of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, while Tilak offers an intimate portrayal of Tilak's nationalist vision.
In addition to these, the festival will showcase Parasakhti (1952), a landmark Tamil film with strong social and nationalist themes, and Veerapandia Kattabomman (1959), a Tamil classic on the legendary freedom fighter. Another highlight is Saat Hindustani (1969), a story of seven Indians fighting for Goa's liberation, which will be showcased at the festival.
Moreover, Tanhaji (2020) is the valorous tale of Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare, and Major (2022) is a tribute to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan's bravery in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Cinema being a visual medium leaves a long-lasting impact on viewers, according to Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He stated that the festival aims to showcase India's rich cultural history and heritage through the medium of cinema, sparking the spirit of patriotism amongst all Indians.
The festival also presents educational documentaries such as Our Flag, exploring the symbolism and history of the Tiranga, and Shahadat, which highlights acts of sacrifice in India's fight for freedom.
Screenings are free and open to the public, with venues including NFDC-NFAI in Pune and other cultural centers. This makes it an excellent opportunity for movie enthusiasts to immerse themselves in India's rich cinematic history and reaffirm their commitment to the nation.
