Residents of Kuban Region advised to maintain composure upon hearing air defense system noises
Breaking News: Wide-scale Drone Attack Hits Krasnodar Region
The Krasnodar region in Russia has been targeted by a large-scale drone attack from Ukraine, as reported on August 8, 2025. The attack primarily focused on the Afipsky oil refinery and a nearby military site in Slavyansk-na-Kubani.
Target and Damage
The Afipsky oil refinery, processing approximately 6 million metric tons of crude oil annually, suffered significant impact. A fire was ignited in the gas condensate processing unit, but was extinguished by emergency crews the following morning. The refinery, which has been a frequent target since 2022, sustained damage as a result of the attack. At least four people were wounded in the Krasnodar and Belgorod regions during the same wave of strikes.
Debris Locations
The fire at the Afipsky refinery was caused by falling drone debris. Other debris presumably fell near the struck military site in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, although specific details of debris dispersal are limited in available reports.
Findings Across the Region
Fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles have been discovered in six districts of the Krasnodar region, including:
- In the Anapa district, fragments were found in a liman near the stanitsa of Blagoveshchenskaya.
- In the Abinsk district, parts of the UAV fell on the territory of a vineyard near the Akhtyrsky urban settlement.
- In Sochi, debris was found in a field near the village of Dagomys and in a forest near the village of Akhtyr.
- In the Temryuk district, drone remains were found in a harvested field near Starotitarovskaya stanitsa.
- In the Krymsky district, debris was found on an empty lot on the outskirts of the khutor of Novotroitsky and in the garden of the village of Kievskoye.
Recommendations and Precautions
Emergency and operational services are working at the sites in the Krasnodar region. If drone debris is found, it should be reported to 112. It is recommended not to approach the debris and not to use any electronic devices, including mobile phones, near them. Residents of Sochi were advised to proceed to the nearest shelters due to activated systems along the Black Sea coast.
Context
This strike is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign using domestically developed drones aimed at undermining Russia’s military and fossil fuel infrastructure. Krasnodar Krai has become an increasingly frequent target due to its strategic military importance and energy assets. The attacks over the Black Sea region are a cause of concern for both Russia and Ukraine, with potential implications for regional stability.
- The ongoing attacks in the Krasnodar region, including the recent war-and-conflicts-related drone attack from Ukraine, are part of a wider political context that highlights the escalating general-news issue of regional instability, as the strikes target Russia's military and fossil fuel infrastructure.
- With the increasing number of crime-and-justice incidents such as the drone attack in Krasnodar, it is crucial for citizens to remain vigilant and follow recommended precautions, such as reporting any found drone debris to emergency services and avoiding electronic devices near debris sites, for their safety and the safety of their communities.
