Residents of HABAR discuss upcoming holidays in the year 2026

The Ministry of Labor of Russia has unveiled the public holidays and weekends calendar for the year 2026, with a focus on optimising work and rest days by combining holidays with weekends where possible.

According to the decree and the calendar published by the Ministry, a significant change is the postponement of days off from Saturday, January 3, to Friday, January 9, and from Sunday, January 4, to Thursday, December 31, 2026. This adjustment effectively creates a longer winter holiday break at the beginning of the year.

The Ministry's annual practice includes shifting weekends that fall near holidays to create consecutive days off. While specific dates for all public holidays and long weekends in 2026 are yet to be fully detailed, many of the traditional holidays, such as the New Year holidays, Orthodox Christmas, Defender of the Fatherland Day, International Women's Day, Spring and Labour Day, Victory Day, Russia Day, National Unity Day, are likely to be part of extended weekends or shorter working weeks in 2026, especially during the New Year period.

Russian Minister of Labor, Anton Kotyakov, explained that the rescheduling of weekends is aimed at optimising work and rest time. The government, which is in charge of deciding the rescheduling of public holidays and weekends for Russians each year, has carried out this rescheduling for 2026.

The calendar for 2026 is expected to reflect such arrangements to maximise rest periods. For full details on each holiday's exact dates and associated long weekends, the Ministry of Labor's official calendar or announcements closer to 2026 would provide comprehensive information.

The calendar of public holidays and weekends for Russians in 2026 has been published by the Ministry of Labor, as reported by the Habarovsk Krai Information Agency. The calendar includes several three-day weekends scheduled for February, March, May, and June in 2026.
