Residents Gain Insight into City's Financial Plan with Unveiled Budget Blueprint
Man City's Budget Blueprint Unveiled: A Journey Through Six Meetings
The first step in unveiling Man City's Budget for 2026 began on Thursday at the Haber Community Centre, with Mayor Meed Ward leading the way. The meeting, attended by a small audience, marked the start of six budget meetings to be held in each city ward.
Mayor Meed Ward took the group through a 40-page document titled the Budget Blue Print, which outlines Man City's financial plan for the coming year. Councillor Paul Sharman, an accountant and Ward 5 representative, was responsible for explaining the budget numbers during the meeting.
For Councillor Sharman, Man City's budget process is a matter of understanding the Tax bill versus Budget. However, as the meeting progressed, it became clear that the process is actually more complex than that.
Two tables will be provided in the article, one showing where the money comes from, where it is going, and the tax increase in terms of dollars and percentages. Another table will show the timeline the budget process will follow. Man City's Budget will be made public on October 24, 2025, and the author of the budget is Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.
During the meeting, Councillor Sharman offered to explain the budget details for those who needed help. Thirteen people participated in the first budget meeting, with the location of subsequent meetings yet to be specified.
It's worth noting that Mayor Meed Ward has never been a strong numbers person, which added an extra layer of responsibility to Councillor Sharman's role. Despite this, the meeting ran smoothly, with the group delving into the intricacies of Man City's finances.
As the budget process unfolds, residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the subsequent budget meetings. Man City's Budget Blueprint promises to shape the city's financial landscape for the coming year, and active engagement from the community is crucial in ensuring a budget that reflects the needs and aspirations of all Man City residents.
