Fire in Holt Heath, Bournemouth: A Major Incident

A major fire has broken out in Holt Heath, Bournemouth, covering an area of approximately 69 hectares. The blaze, which started near Wimbourne and was reported just after 11am on Saturday, has been compared to a 'horror movie' scene due to its size and intensity.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately according to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service officials. This comes after multiple reports of suspicious fires in the nearby heathland area in the preceding months, leading the police to treat these fires as deliberate acts and launch a detailed investigation.

Windy conditions have fanned the flames, accelerating the spread of the fire. Firefighters from multiple regions across southern England have been mobilized to manage the incident, which has been declared a major incident due to its size, complexity, and impact on emergency resources.

Approximately 100 firefighters are involved in controlling the blaze, with efforts focused on surrounding the area to prevent the fire from spreading further. Residents in the vicinity have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed for safety reasons.

In an effort to keep people away from the danger zone, the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service is advising people to stay away from Holt Heath. Road closures have occurred in Holt Heath village and at the junction between Holt Road and Higher Road.

Meanwhile, another fire is being fought at Newton Heath, near Swanage, which has been ongoing since August 3. The cause of the fire at Newton Heath has been determined to be deliberate, but the cause of the fire at Holt Heath remains unknown.

Dog walkers are quickly fleeing the scene at Holt Heath, and residents in Northbourne can see the smoke from the fire. Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the blaze, but the windy conditions are making the fire harder to tackle.

As the situation develops, the police are investigating the deliberate cause of the fire and appealing for witnesses. The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and local authorities are urging everyone to stay informed and follow safety instructions.
