Republican President Donald Trump Criticizes Senator Susan Collins for Defying Him
President Donald Trump has taken to Truth Social to express his displeasure with Maine Senator Susan Collins for opposing a bill aimed at reclaiming $9 billion in funding for public media and foreign aid, as well as other key Republican initiatives.
In a post on Thursday, Trump criticized Collins for her vote against the rescissions package, which aimed to cut roughly $8 billion from foreign assistance programs and about $1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The Senate passed the bill in a narrow 51-48 vote, but Collins, along with Senators Lisa Murkowski and several Democrats, voted against it.
Trump's message was a call to action for Republicans to do their job and confirm all nominees, stating that nominees should not be forced to wait. He also accused Collins of playing with the lives of the American people, and right into the hands of the Radical Left Democrats and Drug Cartels.
This is not the first time Collins has drawn Trump's ire. Earlier this year, she was among several Republicans who voted against Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, a sweeping domestic policy package. Trump accused Collins, along with Senators Mitch McConnell (Ky.), Rand Paul (Ky.), and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), of voting to revoke the president's tariffs on Canada.
Trump's message was a continuation of his criticism of Senate Republicans for not fast-tracking his agenda. He reiterated his call to "save our Country from the Lunatic Left," and urged the Senate to stay in session, taking no recess, to save the country from the "Lunatic Left."
Collins, however, has defended her vote against the rescissions package, stating that the bill has a big problem - nobody really knows what program reductions are in it. She has also called for fact-based journalism, with a request to join HuffPost once again.
