Replace government departments with periodic rotation - Silina's suggestion

Prime Minister Evika Silina of Latvia has proposed a significant change to the country's government structure, aiming to make it more flexible and responsive to current issues. In an interview with Sestdiena magazine, Silina outlined her vision for a system that resembles the European Commission's, with ministries rotating according to topicality.

According to Silina, the head of government would form a government that changes according to the current issue at hand. This proposed system could potentially lead to more efficient and timely policy decisions in Latvia.

Silina believes the current system in Latvia is too rigid, making policy changes difficult. She gave an example of the creation of the Climate and Energy Ministry, citing alternative energy and additional energy resources as a current issue.

Under the proposed changes, the Interior Ministry would handle municipal issues, similar to the practice in Lithuania. However, Silina did not discuss the potential impact of these changes on the Climate and Energy Ministry's current responsibilities or provide specific details about the reduction in the number of ministries.

Silina is a member of the political party New Unity in Latvia. If implemented, these changes may be made after the next Saeima elections or even before. The ministerpräsidentin did not mention any other ministries that might change roles or be eliminated.

Silina emphasized the need for flexibility within ministries and stated that the implementation of these changes requires the election of a new parliament. She did not provide a timeline for the potential reduction in the number of ministries.

It's important to note that Silina did not discuss the impact of the proposed changes on the Interior Ministry's current responsibilities. The proposed system, if implemented, could bring about a new era of government efficiency and adaptability in Latvia.
