Northwest storm clean-up efforts persist unabated - Repairs ongoing for storm damage in northwestern regions

Reinickendorf, a district in Berlin, has been impacted by two severe storms at the end of June, causing extensive damage. Local authorities and emergency services, including the police, have been working diligently to ensure public safety and begin the clearing process.

District Mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, a member of the CDU party, has been actively involved in these efforts. She emphasised that some areas in Reinickendorf still need to remain closed, and appealed to the public not to remove barrier tapes as they secure lives.

More than 1,100 damage reports have been received at the district office, but no new information about the number of damage reports or plans to expand clearing work was provided. However, some previously closed areas, such as the sports facility in Göschenpark, the media competence center in Namslau Street, and part of the cemetery in Heiligensee, are now accessible again.

Two employees of the public order service in Reinickendorf are responsible for checking barriers daily and ensuring danger zones are not entered. The Tegeler Forest, a popular green space in Reinickendorf, remains closed until at least August 18 due to ongoing clearing work.

The district office plans to expand clearing work if the weather remains stable. The Berlin Forests made a statement about the closure of the Tegeler Forest, which was extended due to clearing work taking longer than expected after recent rainfalls.

For detailed and up-to-date information, residents are urged to check official Berlin government or Reinickendorf district websites, police press releases, or local news sources for announcements on storm damage recovery and related political involvement.

  1. The community policy in Reinickendorf, amidst the recovery from severe storms, emphasizes environmental protection as a priority, ensuring that the Tegeler Forest remains closed until at least August 18 for continued clearing work.
  2. As part of the overall efforts in environmental protection and recovery from the storm, additional aspects of the environment, including the Tegeler Forest, are being monitored by environmental-science professionals for weather patterns and future implications on the district's landscape.
