Reorganized hue arrangement following significant mishaps
In the Heidekreis district of Lower Saxony, the intersection of County Road 39 and County Road 5, known as the Dethlinger intersection, has been classified as an accident hotspot due to the number of severe accidents within the past three years.
Jan-Ole Witthöft, the SPD faction leader from Hörpel, frequently observes insufficient reduction in traffic speed at this intersection. He has noted that it has developed into an accident hotspot, but the police have yet to confirm this.
According to Detlev Maske, head of the accident commission, the classification of an intersection as an accident hotspot triggers an examination of safety aspects. On Friday, Maske and representatives of the traffic authority and the road maintenance department visited the site to assess the situation.
Silvia Rose, chairwoman and deputy head of the planning and building department in Munster-Bispingen, has demanded additional stop signs at the Dethlinger intersection. The municipality also proposes upgrading the road marking with a thermoplastic coating to improve safety.
In the three-year period from 2019 to 2021, the Dethlinger intersection had 20 accidents. Unlike the intersection in Hützel, which had no accidents last year, the Dethlinger intersection had three accidents in 2021 and two in 2020.
The assessment of accident hotspots is based on a factorization, according to Maske. He stated that the day of the accident was an absolute exception. The district has clarified that the advance warning sign for 'yield' and the advance signs are not at fault.
The police accident report on the Facebook portal of the Böhme-Zeitung has sparked many reactions. Witthöft notes a broad debate in the community, particularly on social media, about the safety of this intersection.
Only the markings are no longer optimal and will be renewed soon, according to the press office of the Heidekreis district. A company has already been commissioned to renew the markings at the intersection.
In the long term, the municipality of Munster-Bispingen proposes a roundabout at the Dethlinger intersection to further improve safety. The traffic accident hotspot in the Heidekreis district is the motorway (Autobahn) entrance ramp at L215 near Thieshope, identified as an accident hotspot due to frequent traffic accidents occurring there.
